A priest of the Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly, who formalized inter-faith marriages has asked for protection after receiving several threatening calls anonymously.

According to the information received the priest has been identified as K.K Shankdhar. He met the superintendent of the area and asked for protection on Thursday. In his statements, he claimed that he helped 64 Muslim women to marry Hindu men in the last six years. He further stated that 20 marriages happened this year alone.

Shankdhar stated that he was recently blocked by some goons near a temple and was badly threatened but somehow he managed to escape.

According to the information received the priest has been receiving calls from several sources in which he was getting threats to be beheaded.

Further, he stated that he might be attacked at any time so he needs police protection as soon as possible.

Shankdhar said he is being targeted because he was performing rituals non-Hindu women and helping them to marry Hindu men who loved each other and he also performed baptized the women before marriage”.

The SSP further claimed that he had passed Shankdhar’s application to the circle officer of the local intelligence unit and asked for a fresh report on it. The decision for security assistance will be taken based on the report.
