Noida (UP): A gang, which blackmailed couples after secretly making video clips of their private moments in hotels, was busted, the police said on Saturday. Four persons belonging to the gang were arrested.
The gang set up hidden cameras in Oyo hotel rooms and recorded close moments of couples who visited there. The gang members then threatened the couples to circulate those video clips on social media and demanded money from them.
The gang set up a call centre to threaten the couples. According to additional deputy commissioner of police (central) Saad Miya Khan, the police took four persons into custody. They have been identified as Abdul Wahav, Vishnu Singh, Pankah Kumar and Anurag Kumar, he said, adding that they recently blackmailed a couple after making their obscene video.
When the police were probing into the complaint made by the couple, they came across two accused Abdul and Vishnu who revealed the names of the other members of the gang. Pankaj would supply SIM cards to other members of the gang involved in the operation and Anurag ran the illegal call centre.
Khan further said that both Abdul and Vishnu had stayed at an Oyo hotel in Phase three area, where they installed hidden cameras to record private moments of the couples who deposited money in the bank accounts of the blackmailers.
