A bus carrying 100 passengers from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur rammed into a stationary truck on the National Highway 30 (NH 30) near Sohagi Ghati area in MP’s Rewa district. Most of the passengers belonged to Uttar Pradesh. They were going home on the occasion of Diwali.

Bhopal: Fifteen people were killed and over 40 injured in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday night when a Gorakhpur-bound passenger bus rammed into a truck, the police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred when the bus, carrying 100 passengers from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur, collided with a trailer truck on the National Highway 30 (NH 30) near Sohagi Ghati area, sources said.

He further said that 12 people died on the spot, two on the way to hospital and another succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. JCB machines were pressed into service to pull out the bodies from the mangled bus. Most of the people who died in the incident were from Uttar Pradesh and worked as labourers.

The police said that they were going home on the occasion of Diwali. On getting information, a police team from Sohati rushed to the spot and began a rescue operation.

Immediately after the accident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minisyer Shivraj Singh Chauhan spoke to his counterpart in Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and informed him about the accident, official sources said. Chauhan said that those who were seriously injured were undergoing treatment at the government medical college in Rewa.

During his interaction with Adiayanath, Chauhan said that the Madhya Pradesh government would bear the medical expenses of the injured bus passengers. Those who suffered minor injuries were sent to Prayagraj by another bus. The MP government is also making arrangements for sending the bodies of 15 passengers to their hometowns.
