Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Dimple Yadav on Thursday won the Mainpuri parliamentary bypoll in Uttar Pradesh, defeating her nearest rival and BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by more than 2.88 lakh votes. The seat fell vacant after the demise of SP patriarch Mulayan Singh Yadav.
Meanwhile, SP ally Rashtriya Lok Dal on Thursday wonthe Khatauli bypoll in Uttar Pradesh, official sources said. Party candidate Madan Bhaiya defeated his BJP rival Rajkumari Saini by a margin of 22,000 votes.
Madan Bvhaiya polled 97, 701 votes, while Saini received 74, 996 votes, according to the Election Commission.
Saini is the wife of former BJP legislator Vikram Singh, whose disqualification from the state assembly following his conviction in a 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case necessitated the by-poll. The RLD thanked the people of Khatauli for its victory.
Nevertheless, BharatiyaJanata Party’s Akash Saxena won assembly by-election from Rampur Sadar, considered a bastion of Spleader Azam Khan.
