BJP faced defeat in Varanasi

In Varanasi seat, Annapurna Devi, wife of Bahubali Brijesh Singh, defeated BJP’s Sudama Patel. Sudama Patel has come here at number three. Brijesh Singh is currently in jail.

For the polling held on April 10, 739 booths were set up in 58 districts of MLC elections, in which one lakh 20 thousand 657 voters had cast their votes. In this election, MPs, MLAs, all heads, area panchayat members and presidents, district panchayat members and presidents along with municipal councilors, mayors, members and presidents of city panchayats voted.

At present, it has 37 members in the 100-member Legislative Council. It is generally seen in MLC elections that the party in power gets the benefit. In 2017, the BJP returned to power after 15 years, but even after being in power for five years, it could not get a majority in the Legislative Council. Even before this BJP was in power in the state, but could never achieve the majority figure in the Upper House. Samajwadi Party was reduced to Zero in the MLC elections, many heavyweights of SP and coterie of Akhilesh Yadav like Sunil Yadav Sajan, Santosh Yadav Sunny and Uday Veer Singh failed to save their seats. They all are known as the ‘Jawani Kurban gang’ of SP who doesn’t command any vote base in the public.
