Ban on PFI, its outfits linked to ensuing assembly polls: Mayawati

Uttar PradeshBan on PFI, its outfits linked to ensuing assembly polls: Mayawati

Date:

Lucknow (UP): Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and present head of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, said on Friday that the Central government’s decision to disallow the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its outfits was connected with the ensuing assembly elections in several states. In a tweet, she tore into the Centre for such a decision.

She called the decision as selfish. In a tweet in Hindi, she said that the nationwide ban on PFI and its eight outfits was politically selfish and it was connected with the upcoming elections in several states.  She further said, “This is the reason that the opposition is also angrily attacking the move believing that there is a flaw in the government’s intentions and are openly demanding for a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) stating if PFI can be a threat to the country’s international security, why other such organisation should not be banned?”

Nevertheless, Mayawati, who has, so far, kept away from directly confronting the BJP, has begun to take the ruling party to task. In a recent tweet, she criticised the Central government. There are speculations in Uttar Pradesh that the BSP may join hands with the Samajwadi Party.
