Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh health department launched a 75-day “Amrit Dose” campaign on July 15 to vaccinate people from 18 to 59 years against covid-19, which destroyed millions of lives across the world and ruined the economy of many countries. The target was to inoculate one million people, but the government has fallen short of the target by 50 percent, sources said on Friday.
Nevertheless, the department has bettered the daily booster dose vaccination rate by 16 times. Data released by the health department says that more than half a million people have been given booster doses within 73 days of the campaign that ended on Friday.
According to district immunisation officer Dr MK Singh, people have become carefree about the disease, as its new variant is not causing serious illness, besides its transmission rate has also declined. This is the reason that the people are not coming to the inoculation centres to get the free-of-cost doses, he said.
