Lucknow: Veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his supporters, apparently seem miffed with party chief Akhilesh Yadav.  Azam is jailed in Sitapur since 2020 but SP chief only met him once. Rumors are doing the round that Azam is even considering quitting the party over Akhilesh’s indifferent attitude towards him. The rift came into the public domain after Khan’s media in-charge Fasahat Khan alias Sanu said that the Akhilesh Yadav doesn’t want Azam to be released from the jail.

He further said that “UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s statement seems right that Akhilesh Yadav doesn’t want Azam Khan to be released from jail”. We made you and SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav Uttar Pradesh CM but you didn’t make Azam Khan even the Leader of Opposition (LoP). You met him only once in the jail in the last two years,” Farsat told supporters in a party office in Rampur on Sunday.

Earlier, SP MP from Sambhal Shafiqur Rahman Barq slammed Akhilesh Yadav and the party, for not working for the Muslims. He says that BJP is working against Muslims in the state and his own party is not supporting the Muslims in their time of need.

Azam Khan has been jailed in Sitapur since February 2020. The former minister contested the 2022 UP Assembly elections from jail and won the Rampur seat for the 10th time.
