The Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat has fallen vacant after the death of the Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. The party has given ticket to Dimple Yadav, wife of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and daughter-in-law of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Lucknow: Head of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) Shivpal Singh Yadav will be one of the star campaigners of the Samajwadi Party (SP) for Mainpuri by-election, party sources said on Wednesday. On November 10, the SP announced the name of Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav as candidate for the Mainpuri parliamentary constituency.

The seat has fallen vacant after the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. SP general secretary has sent a list containing 40 names of campaigners, including that of Shivpal Yadav who is also the brother of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav.

According to reports, Shivpal Yadav has asked PSPL workers to campaign for Dimple Yadav who filed nomination on Monday. Neither Akhilesh Yadav nor his uncle Shivpal Yadav was present when Dimple was filing nomination.

Other than Shivpal Yadav those who will campaign are Akhilesh Yadav, Mohd Azam Khan and Jaya Bachchan. Dimple Yadav represented Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency from 2012 to 2014. The constitution has been a stronghold of the SP since 1996.

Nevertheless, Dimple Yadav lost the Lok Sabha by-election from Firozabad in 2009 to Congress candidate and actor Raj Babbar and, in 2019, to Bharatiya Janata Party’s Subrat Pathak from Kannauj. The Mainpuri by-election will be held on December 5 and the results will be out on December 8.
