Lucknow (UP): Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has been elected president of the Samajwadi Party (SP) for the third consecutive time, said party’s secretary general Ram Gopal Yadav on Thursday. Ram Gopal Yadav said that Akhilesh Yadav was elected at the national convention of the party at Ramabai Ambedkar stadium in Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav was the lone candidate for the post.

Akhilesh Yadav, who took over from his father Mulayam Singh Yadav, became the president of the party for the first time at an emergency of the party in January 2017.  In the same year, he became the president of the party for the second time in the same year at a convention in Agra.
