Varanasi (UP): The district court is likely to pass an order on the maintainability of the plea in the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri case on Monday. The district administration has imposed ban orders and intensified security, official sources said on Monday. District judge AK Vishvesh reserved the orders till September 12 in connection with the sensitive issue. According to police commissioner A Satish Ganesh, prohibitory orders have been issued and the officers asked to interact with religious leaders to maintain peace.

The entire city has been divided into sectors which have been allocated to the police on the ground of their requirement, he said, adding that directives for flag march and foot march in sensitive areas have been given.  Besides, checking on the border areas, hotels and guest houses has been intensified, he said. Special care has been taken to keep an eye on social media, so that there may not be things that should disturb peace.  

According to reports, five women filed a petition seeking permission to do daily worship of Hindu deities whose idols are said to be located on an outer wall of the Gyanvapi mosque. Nevertheless, Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee said that Gyanvapi mosque belongs to Waqf Board and questioned the maintainability of the petition. An advocate, Madan Mohan Yadav who pleaded before the court that the mosque had been constructed after demolishing a temple. The district is hearing the case after an order by the Supreme Court.

A lower court had asked the administration to do a videography survey of the mosque complex. It was done on May 16 and a report was put up before the court on May 19.
