Jalgaon is called the Banana City of India due to its contribution to banana production in Maharashtra state. The city is located in western India and is situated in northern Maharashtra. The airport of Jalgaon was constructed in 1973 by the Public Works Department. The municipal council of Jalgaon started its work in April 1997 and gave it to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company in April 2007. In June 2010, the then Indian President Pratibha Patil set up the foundation stone for the development and construction of the Jalgaon airport.
There are two flights in Jalgaon, one is for Mumbai and the other one is for Ahmedabad, which has been managed by Trujet airlines. The city is served by the railway station of Jalgaon Junction. The railway helps connect the regions to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. North Maharashtra University is 8 kilometres away from the city centre. Famous undergraduate and post-graduate colleges in the city are Mooljee Jetha College and Nutan Maratha College. University Department of Chemical Technology at NMU, Government College of Engineering, Government Polytechnic, and G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering and Management are some of the engineering and polytechnic colleges.
