Gurugram,  : In many ways, Gurgaon is the exemplar of economist Edward Glaeser’s contention that cities are the ideal form of modern civilization. Adding onto this semi urbanization has taken a rapid pace in and around Gurgaon. With growing opportunities in the city mass migration has given rise to the concept of urban villages. Villages around Gurgaon experienced this transformation as the corporates not only derive natural resources from these villages but also receives human resources from them. The urban villages are over-populated but under equipped with the basic infrastructural facilities.

India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has been a pioneer in setting an example of the Public -Private-Partnership (PPP) model through its CSR initiatives. Bas Hariya, Manesar, Kasan, Baliyana, Sarhaul are some of the villages adopted by Maruti in Gurgaon. Need assessment has been undertaken and considered as one of the primary step by the company post which a sustainable and actionable plan is developed by Maruti along with the mutual participation of Gram Panchayat.

Maruti Suzuki changes the face of Gurugram’s urban villagesMSIL has worked in public partnership on vital aspects of these villages like healthcare, sanitation, accessibility to portable water, availability of common community assets like roads, schools and many more. Within a span of two years, the company has shown a drastic transformation in these villages adopted by them. MSIL already set-up 26 such ATMs in the country and Sarhaul has recently received the 12th unit along with some common community assets like roads, sanitation facilities supplemented by door to door awareness drives.
