TechnologyIndia will navigate the Indian way from Jan 2023

Date:

The government of India is taking all possible steps to become independent in all streams possible and working aggressively towards achieving it. A new mandate has been passed by the govt stating the use of Made in India navigation system in all smartphones sold in India starting January 01 2023.

All the smartphones will have NavIC which is an Indian system developed by ISRO team for military and other business purposes. The NavIC is supposed to be more accurate than the regular GPS as it is indigenous and covers the Indian landmass effectively to provide accurate locations with the help of 8 satellites and dual frequency bands covering entire India.

While GPS  operates to cover the globe, NavIC is dedicated to be used in India and adjacent areas.

All brands will have to include NavIC on all smartphones starting in 2023. In fact there are some smartphones that already have this navigating system available like – The realme X50 Pro and some other phones in the market.

With Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, the Government felt the need for our country to adopt made-in-India technologies that are as good as others.

smartphone makers are worried with this mandate and have raised concerned over components that are necessary for NavIC to work. Also the chipsets that are required for NavIC are costly and it may effect the pricing of the smartphones going forward.

Currently NavIC is only used for services such as public vehicle tracking, or for providing emergency alerts in areas with no terrestrial network connectivity, etc. But with the new mandate the next goal is to make NavIC the hero product of India and replace foreign technology dependence.
