Google to hire more black workers in senior positions

Alphabet Inc’s Google says that it will improve the status of Black workers by appointing them in leadership positions.

The company aims to fill at least 30% of senior level position with employees from underrepresented groups by 2025.

The world’s largest search engine also said that it plans to employ more people in Atlanta, Washington, Chicago and London. This will support more Black workers to get jobs in its company and also include internal anti-racism programs for all employees.

There have been many protests in the US citing that black workers and other people of color do not have equal employment opportunities in Silicon Valley companies like Google, Facebook Inc and Apple Inc.

Thus, Google feels that it is going to prioritize diversity in the workplace as the company has only 3.7% Black employees of the overall workforce as of 2020.

Apart from this, Google has also extended a $175 million “economic opportunity package” as an investment to Black-led venture capital firms and startups.
