Date:

BSNL has launched a new satellite phone in India to help people stay connected in places where there are no mobile towers. The phone is priced at Rs 1,34,166, including taxes.

Unlike a regular mobile phone, this device works by connecting directly to satellites instead of mobile towers. This allows users to make voice calls even in remote areas where there is no network coverage.

However, the satellite phone cannot be purchased or used freely. According to BSNL, users must first get approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Using or owning a satellite phone without permission can lead to legal action under Indian rules.

BSNL said the phone has been developed with the support of global satellite network providers, including Inmarsat, to provide communication in remote locations.

The satellite phone offers several important features, including voice calling in areas without mobile networks, SOS emergency support, long battery life, and a strong, durable design for use in difficult conditions.

The company said the phone is mainly meant for people and organisations that work in remote areas. This includes defence personnel, disaster response teams, maritime workers, mining companies, industrial workers, pilgrims travelling through isolated regions, and adventure travellers.

BSNL said the satellite phone is designed for emergency and mission-critical communication rather than everyday use.

People interested in buying the phone must first get approval from the Department of Telecommunications. For more information, they can visit their nearest BSNL office or contact the company on 9768866652.

The launch comes as BSNL continues to expand its mobile network across India. The company recently announced that it has installed nearly 99,000 4G sites as part of its nationwide 4G rollout, and the government is also considering allowing BSNL to add more 4G sites across the country.
