Old Trafford: England declared their first innings in the second Test match of the series against the West Indies at 469 for 9 wickets. Batting all-rounder Ben Stokes scored 176 runs. Opener Dom Sibley (120) also hit a brilliant century. Guest team spinner Roston Chase took the maximum 5 wickets.
Apart from Stokes and Sibley, wicketkeeper batsman Jose Butler contributed 40 and Dominic Bess contributed 31 not out. The West Indies scored 32 runs for 1 wicket by the end of the second day’s play.
England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes scored 176 in the first innings. He hit 17 fours and 2 sixes off 356 balls. The 29-year-old accomplished his century off 255 balls, which was the 10th century of his Test career.
England opener Dom Sibley (120) hit his second century of his Test career off 312 balls. Sibli hit 5 fours off 372 balls in his innings. Roston Chase hunted them. Earlier, he scored an unbeaten 133 against South Africa in Cape Town in January this year.
West Indies spinner Roston Chase, bowling brilliantly, took the highest 5 wickets in the innings, which is the third time in his Test career. He gave 172 runs in 44 overs. Apart from them, Kemar Roach took 2 wickets, while captain Jason Holder and Aljari Joseph took 1-1 wickets.
England opener Dom Sibley and daring all-rounder Ben Stokes shared a 260-run partnership for the fourth wicket, the second-best partnership in a Test for any wicket on Manchester ground. In 2001, Michael Vaughan and Thorpe had added 267 runs for the third wicket against Pakistan.
Ollie Pope could not do anything special and the Windies team spinner Roston Chase dismissed him LBW. He scored only 7 runs. England’s fifth wicket fell to a score of 352.
Wicket-keeper batsman Jose Butler added 40 runs, while in the end, Dom Bess returned unbeaten after scoring 31 runs. Butler hit 4 fours in his innings of 79 balls. Bess hit 3 fours and 1 six in his unbeaten innings of 26 balls. Dom Bess and Stuart Broad (11 *) shared an unbeaten 42-run partnership for the final wicket.
The first blow to the West Indies team came at a score of 16 and opener John Campbell (12) was dismissed LBW by Sam Karan. Although the on-field umpire was given a not out by Campbell, the England team took DRS which was successful. Campbell hit 2 fours off 34 balls.
