India and Bangladesh are locking horns with each other in the first of the three-match Test series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhary Stadium in Chattogram. Batting first after winning the toss, the Indian team ended up the day 1 with a score of 278 runs for the loss of six wickets. The highlight of day 1, Shreyas Iyer went back to the pavilion only within eight overs after the star of the second day’s play.
It was the time when senior all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and lower-order batter Kuldeep Yadav took the charge to take India to a strong position in the match. The duo stitched a partnership of 92 runs for the eighth wicket that helped India reach a decent total of 404 runs in the first innings of the Chattogram Test.
Ravichandran Ashwin fell prey to Mehidy Hasan Miraz on the individual score of 58 runs followed by the departure of Kuldeep Yadav off Taijul Islam after adding 40 runs with his bat. Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam ended up scalping four wickets each in the first innings for the hosts.
Talking about the first innings of Bangladesh, the spin-pace duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj ran riot in Chattogram by collectively scalping seven wickets of the hosts. Kuldeep claimed four important wickets by conceding only 33 runs in 10 overs on day 2. Whereas Siraj hunted 3 Bangla wickets by conceding mere 14 runs in only nine overs.
Other than Siraj and Kuldeep, senior speedster Umesh Yadav also claimed the scalp of Yasir Ali with a sensational stump that ended up uprooting the leg stump of the Bangla batter. At the end of day 2, the hosts were struggling at the score of 133 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Now, Shakib’s men would be eyeing to avoid the follow-on while facing the Indian bowling lineup on day 3 of this ongoing series opener against Bangladesh.
