New Delhi: On Thursday, apart from the annual general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), three new members of the selection committee were appointed in an important decision. The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), headed by Madan Lal, selected three new selectors after meeting through video conferencing and examining all three applications. The CAC sent the names of these three to the board and the BCCI did not take any time to announce their appointment.
The CAC has recommended the names of Chetan Sharma, former fast bowler Abhay Kuruvilla and Devashish Mohanty, who made the former seamer and first hat-trick in the World Cup for the senior men’s selection committee. Sharma, a former Indian player, has represented the country in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs in an 11-year international career, which is a notable achievement for taking a hat-trick in the 1987 World Cup. Sharma started playing first-class cricket for Haryana at the age of 16. He made his Test debut at the age of 18, a year before which he made his ODI debut in December 1983 against the West Indies.
Also, the CAC recommended Chetan Sharma’s name as the rules for the post of Chief Selector. According to the rule, the most senior member (total number of matches) becomes the chief selector. The CAC will review the tenure of these three after one year and will again send its recommendations to the BCCI. These three members will now work with Sunil Joshi and Harvinder to choose Team India. Chetan Sharma (54 years) said, ‘It is definitely an honor for me to get the opportunity to serve Indian cricket once again. I do not speak much because only my work will speak. He said, ‘I only thank the BCCI for this opportunity.’ Former medium-speed bowler Kuruvilla was supported by the big officials of Mumbai Cricket Association, he was given preference over Ajit Agarkar from West Zone.
