Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have engineered a split in the Congress by wooing its eight legislators, but the state president of the ruling party in Goa had a different opinion about it. A day after the eight Congress split, BJP’s state president Sadanand Tanavade said on Thursday that had this group approached, he would have never admitted them into the party. He would have said, “No to their entry.”
He said he was told in July that those eight Congress law-makers would join the BJP and the party’s central leader Bhupender Yadav had also come to Goa then. After that, those eight legislators formed a group and joined the party, he said.
Later they formed a group of eight MLAs and it happened yesterday,” Tanavade told reporters here. He said that the party followed the decision taken by the Centre, but his personal opinion was that he would have said “No” to their entry in the party. The state unit of the party is bound to accept the decisions of the Central leadership, he said, adding that as far as the cabinet reshuffle goes, it is not on his hand.
