Uttar PradeshRow over AMU teachers’ body poll panel, VC intervenes

Date:

Aligarh (UP): The election to the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) has again kicked up a row, sources in the university said on Thursday. It happened two days after chief election officer of AMUTA Mujahid Beg announced a list of two new executive members of the poll committee. One of them S Chandni Bi has been elected as president. As the list kicked up storm, vice chancellor Tariq Mansoor had to intervene in the matter.

Nevertheless, it happened for the first time that female professor and two Hindu teachers have been included in the executive committee. Their legal status has, however, put up a question mark. The VC used his special powers and constituted a new committee to conduct fresh election. The two non-Muslims in the committee are Yogesh Kumar Yadav and Kharade Pankaj Prakash.
