Dehradun. A special campaign to stop line loss and power theft in Uttarakhand began on Wednesday on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat started ‘Urjagiri’ at his residence and said that efforts should be intensified to stop power theft.

He said that the distribution deficit at the time of creation of the state has been reduced from 29.52 to 14.32 percent. Rawat said that these losses should now be brought to 13 percent.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to curbing power losses, he said it is the duty of employees and officers of electricity corporations to curb these losses so that honest users do not incur more than tariffs. The CM also directed that vigilance cell of UPCL be strengthened to prevent power loss.

He said that every officer of the Electricity Corporation, with the authority of Chief Engineer to Additional Engineer, should be given a monthly target for checking the power connection.

CM said that Uttarakhand is second in the country after Gujarat, at least in the list of line and transmission losses. Secretary Shakti Radhika Jha said that Urjagiri should make a path of life on the lines of Gandhigiri.

He said that regular raids are being conducted to catch the thieves. Jha said that old mechanical meters are being replaced by electronic meters and areas where there is a high probability of theft; LT AB cable is being laid.
