New Delhi: Former chief minister and president of the Bahujan Samaj Party has said the Samajwadi Party (SP) is losing its base in Uttar Pradesh and took the party to task for its links with criminals. Mayawati made the statement in a tweet on Saturday. The SP has a secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she said.
Mayawati’s statement came at a time when all opposition parties are trying to unite against the BJP. The BJP has got a walkover and freedom to do the things the way it wants to, although the SP is the main opposition party in the state, she said, adding that such a BJP-SP nexus has made the life of common man, especially that of Muslims, miserable.

“In order to hide his anti-people activities, the SP chief often tried to divert the people’s attention by launching unrestrained and childish rhetoric against others, due to which people and other opposition parties in the country need to be cautious of the SP,” she said. Mayawati made the remark after SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s interview with a news channel where he called the BSP a prisoner of a self-made jail created by the BJP.
She also attacked the BJP for its order to survey the unregistered Madrassas in Uttar Pradesh. The state should improve the condition of the government-aided madrassas and the schools, she said. On September 1, the state government announced that the unrecognised madrassas would be surveyed for improving the conditions of students, teachers and the curriculums.
