TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee is likely to attend a meeting of opposition leaders that is to be held in Delhi, next week. The information was shared by certain senior TMC leaders, on 12 August 2021.
Reportedly, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi has invited the CMs and certain senior opposition leaders to the meeting, on 20 August 2021.
Recently, Mamata Banerjee had announced her plans to travel to New Delhi to participate in a meeting of opposition parties and leaders. The meeting is to be held following the conclusion of the ongoing session of the Parliament.

The development comes in the backdrop if TMC refraining to participate in certain opposition protests held outside the Parliament, most of which were led by Rahul Gandhi. According to TMC MP Saugata Roy, “TMC contested the Bengal Assembly elections alone and defeated the BJP. In Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, a coalition is in government POWER. The party has no coalition compulsions and wants to be treated with the respect it deserves.
The party needs to be treated differently from others, the TMC leader clarified. “Seven TMC MPs have been suspended in the monsoon session of the parliament. Also, our women MPs were physically stopped from entering the House. Despite all of this, the party did not question lack of support from other party MPs, he declared.
The Mamata Banerjee-led party has also been critical of the alleged blocking of Congress’s official Twitter account, questioning if the move is linked to the opposition to BJP’s politics and policies.
“We strongly condemn the blocking of the accounts of @INCIndia and senior leaders of the Congress party,” TMC leader Derek O’Brien had tweeted. Also, the party’s Bengal general secretary, Kunal Ghosh, termed the development as “a dangerous trend”.
