Tanmoy Ghosh, a Bishnupur MLA, joined the Trinamool Congress, accusing his BJP of playing vengeful politics. In an interview with reporters, Ghosh said that the BJP aimed to create disorder among West Bengal residents, which is why he joined the TMC.
He moved from the TMC to the BJP in March, just days before the state polls. He was formerly the TMC Youth President of Bishnupur town in Bankura district and a local civic councilor. State Education Minister Bratya Basu welcomed Ghosh into the party, saying the BJP attempted post-election retaliation against the TMC.

The BJP won 77 of the 292 seats in the West Bengal assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress received 213 votes, while the ISF and GJM each received one vote. After the death of one candidate in each of the two seats, voting in Jangipur and Samserganj had to be postponed. The two BJP MLAs Jagannath Sarkar and Nisith Pramanik resigned to saving their seats for the Lok Sabha, while Mukul Roy went to the TMC. They were not. Roy is still a BJP MLA, on the other hand.
