The annual energy efficiency performance of various states and territories is measured and compared using the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI). Due to its unwavering dedication to environmentally friendly practices for a future where energy conservation is a top priority, the Chandigarh administration has won the coveted first place in the Group 4 category of the State Energy Efficiency Index 2023 for the second year in a row. On Thursday, at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, President Draupadi Murmu presented the award to Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, secretary, finances and engineering, UT, and CB Ojha, chief engineer, engineering department, UT.

A metric called the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) is used to evaluate and contrast the yearly energy efficiency performance of various states and territories. The Alliance for an Energy Efficiency Economy (AEEE) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) worked together to develop the index. On December 14, National Energy Conservation Day, which is observed globally, BEE hosts the National Energy Conservation Awards ceremony in New Delhi each year to honor the winner chosen under the Union Ministry of Power.

Building, industry, transportation, municipal, and cross-sector energy efficiency practices are among the many aspects that SEEI evaluates in a state. These involve energy production, usage patterns, measures, and programs aimed at reducing energy use, the use of energy production, usage patterns, measures, and programs aimed at reducing energy use, the use of energy from renewable sources, infrastructure, and general energy efficiency practices. To facilitate logical peer comparison, BEE divides all states and territories into four groups each year according to their final energy consumption (TFEC).

SEEI’s main objective is to promote a change in the energy landscape that is more efficient and sustainable. It seeks to mobilize state efforts in order to optimize energy use, cut waste, encourage the use of renewable energy sources, and lessen environmental effects, all of which will strengthen society’s resilience and environmental consciousness.

Furthermore, the objectives highlight the significance of SEEI’s role in not only evaluating energy efficiency but also in pressuring states to adopt policies that drastically cut their carbon footprints, thereby reducing climate change and promoting a more ecologically friendly approach to energy production and consumption.

Securing the coveted First Prize (Group 4 category) in the State Energy Efficiency Index 2023 for the second consecutive year is yet another noteworthy accomplishment for the Chandigarh Administration. A metric for evaluating and contrasting the annual energy efficiency performance of various states and UTs within a nation is the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI). In partnership with the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) develops the index.
