
Chandigarh, Punjab: Dharam Pal, a UT consultant, launched the “Elder Line 14567” toll-free helpline for the city’s older citizens on Friday.

It was created in partnership with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment by the UT Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development.
Senior citizens’ problems and questions about various government plans and programmes would be addressed via the helpline.
It will also give rapid assistance in the event of abuse, the rescue of the homeless elderly, and assistance with maintenance-related legal concerns, as well as emotional support.
During the week, the helpline will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. The callers will be assisted by seven professionally trained staff, including a project manager and a call responder-cum-field reaction officer.

The expert advised the department to use social media platforms and undertake awareness efforts to promote the helpline.
