News Desk – India is continuing its big effort to bring back its citizens stuck in war-hit areas under Operation Sindhu. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, more than 1,100 Indians were brought back safely from Iran and Israel, taking the total number of evacuees to 3,170 so far.
From Israel, 594 Indians returned. The Indian Air Force’s big C-17 aircraft flew over 400 people after they were moved out of Israel to Jordan and Egypt by road. Another 161 Indians, who reached Amman (Jordan) by road, returned home in a chartered flight.
From Iran, 573 Indians, along with three Sri Lankans and two Nepalese citizens, were flown back on two separate chartered flights.
Here’s a quick look at Tuesday’s major rescue updates:
- 161 Indians flew from Amman to New Delhi at 8:20 a.m. They were welcomed at the airport by Minister Pabitra Margherita.
- 165 Indians flew on a C-17 aircraft from Amman and were received by Minister L. Murugan.
- Another group of 268 Indians flew from Sharm-el-Sheikh (Egypt) and landed in Delhi at 11 a.m.
- From Mashhad (Iran), 292 Indians reached Delhi at 3:30 a.m.
- Another flight from Mashhad brought back 281 Indians, 3 Sri Lankans, and 2 Nepalese citizens at 3 p.m.
Till now, 2,576 Indians have been safely evacuated from Iran alone.
Tensions between Iran and Israel are high, with both countries firing missiles and drones at each other. The situation got worse after the U.S. bombed three Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, June 22.
Since the conflict began, India has quickly launched evacuation flights from Mashhad (Iran), Yerevan (Armenia), and Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) to bring people home.
