Date:

News Desk – Just when people in Balasore thought they’d seen enough rain, the Subarnarekha River had other plans — like overflowing dramatically and flooding 61 villages across 21 gram panchayats. Because clearly, what’s life without an uninvited water invasion?

What Went Wrong?

Heavy rain + Jharkhand releasing excess water = Instant chaos

The river crossed the danger mark (10.36m) like it was on a mission

Thanks to Galudih barrage and Chandil Dam, water poured in like it was free refills at a soda bar — and Odisha wasn’t ready.

Over 50,000 people affected

Homes, roads, fields? Washed away like bad memories

Families grabbed kids, cows, and hopes and fled to high ground

Bhograi block takes the prize for worst-hit. Five panchayats, including Kusuda and Gabgan, went underwater faster than your phone in the toilet.

Also, 50 villages got cut off because of rising water. And sadly, one person is missing, swept away in the floods.

Thankfully, it’s not all floating chaos.

Boats are out

ODRAF, Fire Services, and one NDRF team are on the ground

Basically, the rescue squad is here because the flood clearly didn’t come with a warning
