Date:

News Desk – KP Sharma Oli once again appointed Prime Minister of Nepal, marking his fourth term. Oli is known for his staunch pro-China views and this has caused concern in India regarding potential actions he could take related to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Nepal had previously agreed to join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Discussions and agreements on these projects are still pending.

Oli’s political party, the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), emphasizes a neutral foreign policy by promising not to allow Nepalese soil to be used against any nation and to foster friendly relationships among neighbors including India.

Relations between India and Nepal have been tense, especially after Nepal published a new political map in 2020 that included territories disputed with India.

Despite his strong political maneuvers and the complexities of Nepal’s political landscape, Oli’s return as Prime Minister with the support of both his party and the Nepali Congress suggests a balanced approach toward handling both domestic and foreign affairs.
