Date:

News Desk – A tragic accident took place on Wednesday morning at Chunar railway station in Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh) when the Kalka Mail Express ran over a group of devotees crossing the railway tracks.

According to officials and eyewitnesses:

A passenger train (Chopan–Prayagraj Express) had arrived at Platform No. 4.

The devotees, who were headed to Varanasi for Kartik Purnima rituals, got down from that train.

Instead of using the foot overbridge, they tried to cross the tracks to reach Platform No. 3.

At that moment, the Kalka Mail (Netaji Express), which does not stop at Chunar, passed through at high speed and hit them.

The impact was so severe that several bodies were mutilated on the tracks.

At least 6 people have been confirmed dead, according to Additional DG Piyush Mordia.

Several others are injured and have been taken to nearby hospitals.

Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police rushed to the spot.

Rescue operations began immediately and the bodies were sent for post-mortem.

Despite the incident, train movement at Chunar station was not affected.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed:

Senior officers to reach the accident spot ASAP

SDRF and NDRF teams to assist in rescue efforts

Immediate medical treatment for the injured

He assured all possible support to the victims’ families.
