In a declaration, the third World Hindu Congress (WHC) abandoned the term Hinduism, saying that the term Hindutva was more reliable, containing all that the word ‘Hindu’ implies. As the “eternal” religion, Hindutva and Hindu Dharma were chosen by the World Hindu Congress on Friday to replace the term Hinduism, which it said conveyed repressive and discriminating sentiments.
The initial word in the term ‘Hindu Dharma,’ ‘Hindu’, is a widely used word. It reflects everything Sanatan, or eternal. The WHC embraced a declaration at the conclusion of its first day of discussions, which stated, “there is Dharma, referring to ‘That, which preserves’.” In contrast, it was claimed that Hinduism is completely separate since it has an “ism” suffix, which is a word for a repressive and predisposed mentality or belief.
For these factors, a lot of our elders preferred the term “Hindutva” over Hinduism, assuming it to be more accurate because it includes the whole spectrum of what the word “Hindu” indicates.
The declaration’s assertion was made in the context of an uproar ignited by some controversial remarks made by DMK managers regarding Sanatan Dharma throughout a conference with the theme “The Abolition of Sanatana.”
The statement clarified that Hindutva was a simple word that simply meant “Hindu-ness.” “Others have used the alternative “Sanatan Dharma”, frequently abbreviated as “Sanatan”. Here the term “Sanatan” works as an adjective suggesting Hindu Dharma’s everlasting nature,” the release stated. It also noted that, because of inexperience, many academicians and scholars depict Hindutva as the opposite of Hindu Dharma; nevertheless, most of these individuals are anti-Hindutva due to their abdominal hatred and prejudices against Hindu Dharma.
