NationalGoa Celebrates Liberation Day: Remembering Freedom from Portuguese Rule

Date:

News Desk – Goa Liberation Day is celebrated every year on December 19th. It marks the day Goa became free from Portuguese control in 1961 after 451 years. This day is important because it remembers the brave actions of the freedom fighters who helped make Goa a part of India.

On this day, schools and colleges in Goa host different activities like speeches and art competitions to teach students about the significance of this day.

The history of Goa Liberation Day starts from when the Indian Army helped free Goa in 1961. Before this, despite India becoming independent in 1947, Goa was still under Portuguese rule. Attempts to solve this issue through talks had failed.

Goa Liberation Day is a reminder of the long struggle and the unique culture of Goa that developed under Portuguese influence. It’s a day to celebrate Goa’s history and the strong spirit of its people.
