Here’s the inspiring story of an inspiring woman, Ummul Kher, who battled against all odds to end up an IAS officer. Hailing from Rajasthan, Ummul grew up in Delhi’s Trilokpuri slum. Her are worked by selling clothes in a shop.

Who is Ummul Kher

IAS officer Ummul Kher defied all odds in her way to crack the toughest UPSC exam. Ummul, firstly from Pali in Rajasthan, discovered herself in the Trilokpuri slum of Delhi. Despite being born in Rajasthan, her family’s pass to Delhi for a livelihood meant a difficult environment. Battling a rare bone disease that led to 16 fractures and 8 surgeries, Ummul’s dedication remained unshaken.

Early Life and Challenges of Ummul Kher

Ummul’s journey started in the slums of Delhi, where she lived in a makeshift home that slightly shielded her from the elements. Diagnosed with an unprecedented rare bone sickness, her early life was punctuated by frequent fractures and surgical procedures. The financial strain of her scientific circumstance was compounded by her family’s income. Yet, Ummul’s thirst for knowledge was insatiable. She cross to all society norms and pursue studies from best sources.

Journey from slum to success

She never gave up her dream and made her journey successful. She also gives tuition from many sources to add to her family’s income. At a younger age, she began to earn money to cover her educational fees. She was assisted by using an NGO to finish her Class 10.

After her 10th, her family no longer wanted her to save the research. However, she ran far away from her family and lived in a slum wherein she once more took up tuition and finished her Class 12. She scored an excellent 91% in her Class 12 and went directly to graduate from Gargi College under Delhi University, a DNA India report stated.

She then went directly to pursue her MA at JNU’s School of International Studies before being time-honored into the MPhil/PhD program at the same group. She also started her UPSC practice and secured AIR-420 to become an IAS officer.

From the outset, Ummul grappled with a debilitating circumstance—a rare, rare bone ailment that punctuated her life and not using less than 16 fractures and necessitated 8 surgical procedures. In between the adversities, a resolute spirit was involved, urging her closer to the pursuit of greatness despite the shackles of financial hassles.

Undeterred by her situation, Ummul embarked on a relentless quest for understanding, supplementing her family’s income through tutoring peers while shouldering the load of her educational fees. Her spirit led her to try to find a safe place in an NGO’s benevolence, permitting her to complete her secondary training against all odds.
