Deshmukh move to SC against HC order of CBI probe

New Delhi: The Maharashtra government and Anil Deshmukh are likely to approach the Supreme Court separately against the Bombay High Court order in the preliminary probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the ‘extortion’ allegations against the latter.

Senior Advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi is expected to appear on behalf of Maharashtra government, sources said.

Earlier in the day, the Bombay High Court asked the CBI to probe the corruption allegations leveled against Deshmukh by former Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh.

Soon after the high court directives, Deshmukh resigned from the Home Minister post citing ‘moral grounds.’

“Deshmukh met NCP president Sharad Pawar and offered to resign to ensure an impartial probe. After the nod, Deshmukh has gone to meet Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to submit his resignation,” NCP national spokesperson and Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik said.
