New Delhi: The Yamuna crossed danger mark in Delhi on Friday because of heavy rain in upper catchment areas, official sources said. This prompted the civic body to chalk out a plan to evacuate people from the low-lying areas. According to flood control room officials, the water level went up to 205.38 metres at 4pm on Friday. Similarly, the water level of the river rose from 203.86 metres near the old railway bridge, the flood control room officials said. As many as 34 boats and mobile phones are ready to plunge into action in low-lying areas.

As the discharge rate of water from Hatnikund barrage in Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar went beyond 1,00,000 cusecs mark, the authorities issued flood alert in Delhi. Earlier on Thursday, the flood control officials urged all sector officials to watch the rising water level of the river in their respective areas and take necessary measures at vulnerable points. They have also been advised to deploy teams to help people living within the river embankments.
