Dehradun/Moradabad: A murder case has been registered against some officers of a police team of Uttar Pradesh in connection with the killing of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s wife in Uttara Khand on Wednesday evening, officials said on Thursday. The woman was Gurpreet Kaur, the wife of BJP leader Gurtaj Bhullar. Five cops from Moradabad district in UP suffered injuries in the clash that took place at Bharatpur near Kashipur in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district.
A team of Special Operations Group (SOG) from Moradabad district in UP was searching for a mining mafia Jafar who was reportedly hiding in Bhullar’s house in Bharatpur village. Just as they reached the BJP leader’s residence, an argument took place between the villagers and the police team. In the shootout, Grupreet Bhuller, who was returning from work, was killed. According to the senior superintendent of police of Udham Singh Nagar Manjunath TC, the UP police did not inform the local cops about the action they were going to take.
Immediately after the incident, hundreds of villagers rushed to the spot and blocked the highway in protest against the UP police’s action. The legislators from Kashipur Trilok Singh Cheema and law-maker from Gadarpur Arvind Pandey joined the protesters. The road blockade was lifted after the Uttarakhand police assured the angry mob that action would be taken against the guilty. A case was registered against a few members of the UP police team. The injured cops were admitted to a hospital and were out of danger.
According to senior superintendent of police in Moradabad Hamant Kutiyal, the operation was so urgent that the UP police could not inform their Uttarakhand counterparts about the action they were going to take.
