According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), India is expected to have the highest number of births nine months after coronavirus disease has been declared as pandemic i.e. since March 2020.
The country is expected to have more than 20 million babies between March and December.
The study by the top body also warned that pregnant mothers and babies born during the worldwide pandemic would be anxious about the inadequate healthcare services that will put both babies and mother at risk.
Other nations having such highest number of birth rates include China at 13.5 million, Nigeria at 6.4 million, Pakistan at 5 million and Indonesia at 4 million.
It is also predicted that over 24 million births will be India during the January-December 2020 period.
The agency has also suggested to set up a task force to train the healthcare workers in the right manner and equip them with proper medicines to take care of every mother and newborn during their pregnancy, delivery and after birth to keep them away from the risk of contracting infectious coronavirus disease and other illnesses.
