Ready to fulfill promises in first cabinet meet, says Shivkumar
New Delhi: At a time when Bengaluru is preparing for the swearing-in ceremony, both Siddaramaiah were in Delhi on Friday to discuss with the party’s top brass the distribution of portfolios among the ministers to be included in the new cabinet.
Swearing-in ceremony is being held on Saturday. According to reports, both have requested the top leaders of the party to take part in the ceremony.
On Thursday, after the Congress Legislature Party elected Siddaramaiah as their leader, he met the governor to stake claim. In return, the governor called him to form a government.
Siddaramaiah will be the chief minister and DK Shivkumar will be his deputy. Some other ministers will also be administered oath at the swearing-in ceremony.
Shivkumar said that he wanted to invite the party leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka.
About the number of opposition leaders who will take part in the ceremony, Shivkumar said that would be taken care of by the party president.
In the first cabinet meeting, the party will fulfill the promises made to the people of Karnataka by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka, Shivkumar said.
Only 34 ministers can be accommodated in the 224-member Karnataka House, but many legislators are hoping to get cabinet berths. Therefore, distribution of portfolios will be a major challenge for Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar.
