New Delhi: Aftab Ameen Poonawalla used to torture his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar before murdering her and cutting her body into 35 pieces and dumping them in different locations in Delhi. A conversation between Shraddha and her friends that the Delhi police came across during the probe indicated the torture Poonawalla meted out to her and that ultimately led to the brutal killing of the woman on May 18, official sources said on Saturday.
Shraddha had chats with her friends and co-workers either on WhatsApp or on Instagram that Poonawalla used to torture her since the beginning of their relationship. She had narrated her woes as well as posted her photograph with injury marks on her face, official sources further said.
According to the conversations cited by the officials, she even told her colleagues that they had met Poonawalla’s parents and she needed to make sure he hove out. When that happened, the couple was living at Vasai in Mumbai where she was admitted to a private hospital where the doctors said she had come to them with “only internal injuries.”
The couple had met through a dating app “Bumble” in 2018. They came to Delhi on May 8 and shifted to the Chattarpur area on May 15 and, on May 18, Poonawalla killed Shraddha and cut her body in 35 pieces. The felon was arrested on November 12.
Official sources said when the murderer was called for questioning for the first time after the incident came to light, he informed the police that Shraddha had left the house on May 22.
When the investigators wanted to know from him the reason for her not taking any of her belongings, the murderer said she had left only with her phone and he did not talk to her since the day she had left the house.
The police found discrepancies in his statements, but he finally confessed to having murdered Shraddha.
