Shah Faisal will soon be released, PSA removed

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir administration removed the Public Safety Act (PSA) imposed against former IAS officer Shah Faisal. The administration also removed the PSA levied against PDP leaders Sartaj Madni and Pir Mansoor.

On February 15, the Jammu and Kashmir administration registered a case against Shah Faisal under the controversial Public Safety Act. Shah Faisal has been in custody since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was abolished. There are two provisions under the PSA – public order and the security of the state.

Under the first provision, a person can be detained for six months without trial and under the second provision a person can be detained for two years without trial. Shah Faisal was stopped at the airport between Delhi and Istanbul in the night between 13 and 14 August last year before being flown to Istanbul and taken to Srinagar, where he was detained.
