Kanker (Chhattisgarh): In the forested Tekapar village of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh, the security forces found a powerful improvised explosive device (IED), suspected to have been kept by Maoists to cause destructions, official sources said on Thursday. The explosive packed in an iron pipe weighed 10kg, and had it exploded, it could have caused a massive destruction to the village under Koyalibeda police station as well as to the security forces, sources said.
According to sub-divisional officer of police Amarnath Sidar, a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), which was on a search operation in the area, found the explosive hidden in thick coppice. The Maoists wanted to target the security forces. Sidar said that a major tragedy was averted. The bomb disposal squad defused the explosive, he said.
As part of rural warfare, the Maoists plant bombs and iron spikes on tracks to target security forces which are on search operations in the hilly and forested terrains, sources further said.
