Bengaluru: At a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spares no effort to defame the first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru for all the problems the country is facing today, Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai praised Nehru on Monday on his birth anniversary.
Credit for taking India to international level goes to Nehru, he said after garlanding his statue in Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru. Bommai further said as the first Prime Minister of India loved children, his birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day.
The chief minister further said that Nehru worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi during the country’s freedom struggle. Nehru worked hard to take the country to new heights, Bommai said, adding that as the first Prime Minister of the independent India, he laid the foundation for development.
His role in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was commendable with Marshal Tito, Bommai said, adding that India is still playing a major role in NAM.
