Morbi (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi together with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday met those who took part in rescue and relief operations after the cable over the Machchhu river in Morbi district of Gujarat caved in on Sunday. Nearly 141 people lost their lives and over 100 sustained injuries in the tragedy. The search and rescue operations continued in the Machchhu river, because it is feared more people are still trapped in the debris.
Both Modi and Patel met the injured in a hospital after inspecting the accident site at Morbi. Modi also held a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar, on Monday to review the situation in Morbi. He briefed about the relief and rescue operations and about how to deal with the injured and with families who lost their near and dear ones in the accident. The Prime Minister asked the officials and ministers to ensure that the affected people get all help, sources in the PMO said.
The bridge was renovated and reopened to the public on October 26. More than 500 people were standing on the bridge which could not withstand the pressure and collapsed.
