Mercury below 4.6 deg C in Delhi

New Delhi: Cold wave conditions prevailed in north India on Thursday with the National Capital recording minimum 4.3 degree celsius, three degrees below normal.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, chilly winds blew in Haryana, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded 4.2 deg C temperature while Karnal 4.9 deg C and Rohtak 4.4 deg C. In Chandigarh, the minimum was 5.1 deg C.

The weather conditions were quite similar in Punjab where Patiala recorded a minimum of 5.8 deg C, Ludhiana registered a low of 5.5 deg C amd Amritsar experienced 4.2 deg C. Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla saw 3 deg C, one degree below normal.

In Rajasthan, there was further dip in the mercury with Sikar recording the least 0.5 deg C. Churu shivered at 2.2 deg, Bikaner 3.1, Jaislamer 5.2, Alwar 6.6 and Jodhpur 7.1 deg C.

Scattered rainfall was witnessed in Uttar Pradesh. Bareilly was the coldest place in the state at 3.3 deg C, while Prayagraj and Lucknow recorded 10 deg and 8 deg C temperature.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar remained frozen at -6 deg C. One-way traffic on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, connecting the Union Territory of Ladakh with Kashmir valley, was restored after remaining closed for nine days due to accumulation of several feet of snow.

Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) also moved from Jammu to Srinagar on 270-km-long national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
