Mumbai: Business tycoon Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident in the Charoti area of Palghar district of Maharashtra on Sunday, the police said. He was 54. Mistry who took over as chairman of the Tata Sons was ousted later. The accident occurred when he was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a silver colour Mercedes car which hit the road divider in Charoti, 135km from Mumbai, superintendent of police Balasaheb Patel said.

Another person who died in the accident was Jehangir Pandole. Besides Mistry and Jehangir Pandole, two others Anahita Pandole, Darius Pandole and the driver were in the car. All three of them sustained severe injuries. Darius Pandole, an independent director in Tata group, was opposed to removal of Mistry as the company’s chairman. Darius is Anahita’s husband and Jehangir was her father-in-law. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the sudden death of Cyrus Mistry.
