Gulam Rasool Dar, the BJP’s Kisan Morcha president in Kulgam, and his wife were killed by terrorists in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag. The terrorists stormed the leased residence of BJP politician Redwani Kulgam and opened fire indiscriminately, killing Dar and his wife Jawahira, the panch of her region. Following the incident, the couple was transported to the hospital, but they died due to their injuries. The terrorist organisation Lashkar e Taiba was accused by police of the killing.
Security personnel recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition from a hideaway in the valley’s Poonch region just hours ago. The Border Security Forces claimed they seized two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, one Chinese handgun, ten pistol magazines, four Chinese grenades, and 257 rounds of AK-47 ammunition only days before Independence Day.

BJP J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur, speaking about the event, denounced the death of Dar and his wife, calling it barbaric and cowardly. According to Thakur, assaulting and killing innocent people will lead nowhere, and the acts show extremists’ anger. Thakur extended his condolences to the deceased family and asked police to apprehend and severely punish the assailants.
This is the third such attack in the Valley this year on a BJP local leader. Militants stormed Municipal Office Sopore, some 55 kilometres north of Srinagar, on March 29, murdering two BJP municipal councillors, Shams-ud-din Peer and Riyaz Ahmad, as well as a police constable, Shafqat Ahmad. On June 3, terrorists shot and killed BJP councillor Rakesh Pandit, who was in Tral without his two security guards supplied by the police.
In October of last year, terrorists killed three BJP activists in the Kulgam region of South Kashmir, including Fida Hussian, the 29-year-old general secretary of the party’s youth wing, and two other followers in their early twenties. The Resistance Front (TRF), a militant group, claimed ownership of the Kulgam incident after it occurred.

BJP worker Abdul Hamid Najar, a native of Budgam’s Mohiendpora district, was assassinated by terrorists in August 2020. Sheikh Waseem Bari, his father, Bashir Ahmad, and his brother, Umer Sultan, were slain outside their Bandipora home on July 8, last year.
