The AIADMK has terminated its relations with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) effectively today on September 25. The decision was taken after a meeting was organized at the party headquarters in Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK party said the BJP had been making “unnecessary remarks about AIADMK’s former leaders“.
BJP working overtime to stop defection
The AIADMK party has been led by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. The party said it would contest in a solo manner for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
BJP, Congress leaders become active in Sehore
AIADMK’s K P Munusamy gave a statement to ANI saying that, “AIADMK unanimously passed a resolution in the meeting. AIADMK is breaking all ties with the BJP and the NDA alliance from today. The state leadership of the BJP has been continuously making unnecessary remarks about our former leaders, our general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and our cadres for the past one year”.
Without naming any specific person, the resolution said that the BJP’s state brass were recently criticizing CN Annadurai and J Jayalalithaa and the government’s policies.
The party members observed the end of the alliance by using crackers outside its office. The AIADMK-BJP alliance was on the verge after the former party’s D Jayakumar spoke to reporters saying that they will decide everything about the association before the election. He had told news agencies that Annamalai was not fit to be the state president of BJP as he spoke wrongly of late leaders in order to gain attention and promote himself.
The move to call off the alliance happened after senior AIADMK leaders called on BJP chief leader JP Nadda in Delhi and told him about the present situation happening in the state due to the BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai’s “aggressive style of politics”.
Annamalai was asked to apologize for making a comment on Dravidian icon CN Annadurai and he was also asked to replace himself from the leadership position.
When asked about the allegation, Annamalai said that the BJP’s national leadership will release an official statement soon. “Our national leadership is informed about the development. They will be reacting to this. We will talk again soon,” he said.
However, Annamalai refused to say sorry for his controversial remarks and also was assertive that there was no problem between his party and the AIADMK. He claimed that he didn’t speak any ill of Annadurai. Sources say that BJP is strongly back its Tamil Nadu state chief Annamalai. Also, it won’t convince AIADMK to get back to the partnership.
AIADMK had associated with the BJP during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and 2021 Assembly elections as allies.
