I met an elderly woman last week who cried in front of me for the way her life has been going on. This woman has had a tragic past and lives alone in her home and her children live abroad. The woman shared how her negative thoughts and traumatic memories keep haunting her every time she gets up or thinks about doing something new. Her old age and lack of social circle make her feel more lonely in recent times.
Leave your emotional baggage in the past alone
She is glad her children remember her but she is of the opinion that this Kali-yuga is not a good one for anyone and that modern technology has ruined everything. My compassionate feelings were extended to her and in my conversations with her, I tried my best to help her see the positive sides of her life whenever her brain starts reading the past chapters. She felt relieved for the time being but my heart went out to all those who are struggling in modern times to lead a happy and peaceful life.
Turn loneliness into action this festive season
Here are some ideas on how you can get rid of your negative past and move on in your life.
1) Write down your past whenever it knocks on your memory:
Whenever you feel how difficult your life had been and how threatened situations made you feel so helpless, just write them down. Talk it out to yourself or someone about how challenging it was for you to make a move in your unfavorable situation. Cry, share, write, and talk. But once you have expressed what you felt, just let your memory go. Tear those pages where you had written your past, wash your face many times if you have cried so far, and then go out for a walk to forget and forgive your past for whatever it was.
2) Get rid of your fear by instilling courage:
So, if you get afraid thinking about your past and you become impulsive or tense or start yelling at people, just distract yourself to something else. So, if you like to cook, just go to the kitchen and start making something whenever this negative thought process strikes your mind. You can instill courage in your body and mind by reading encouraging quotes and inspiring books. This will allow you to get rid of your fears and unnecessary tensions.
3) Learn something new:
Many times we think we know enough in our life. However, learning has no age limit. You can simply research on the internet on any topic of your choice and learn one new concept every day. You can even teach someone something new that you learned by writing or speaking about it on social media apps. This will help you to stay busy in your free time and thus, you will eventually forget your past memories and move on with a bright and peaceful smile.
Relax and practice calmness. If nothing works for you, try doing yoga and meditation with the help of a tutor or professional. This will help you to stay focused and get rid of unwanted feelings that may take you back to the past tour.
