When you are held back by your old or past beliefs, it is important for you to get a reality check. But how do you get a reality check on what is most important? If your sources of getting a reality check rely heavily on the internet or few people whom you trust the most blindly then there are chances that you will never be able to change your life for the good.

For example, if you share that working for 12 hours is a toxic work culture that you would like to avoid at all costs with your friend who also feels the same, you will never be able to come out of your comfort zone. I have seen people slog for 12-14 hours a day in their shops or in factories, yet they lead a healthy lifestyle and face no mental illnesses. It is because they are aware of what works for them and what doesn’t. If your office work has increased due to recession or lack of sales in your workplace, the only option is not to quit but to embrace the workplace change.

The more you try to accept the transformations and changes happening at the workplace, the more you will be able to come out of your old beliefs and rigid thought processes.

What skills are needed for a good counsellor?

Breaking the beliefs will definitely not be an easy task. It has to be done slowly and eventually so that the rigid patterns that are stopping you from dreaming big or aiming high can be broken. If your aim is to make your income double then your efforts have to be in that direction. But if you keep wasting your important time on unproductive stuff and keep wondering why you are not making a higher income, then the fault is yours totally. 

You need to know what are old thinking patterns are not aligned with the changing world. For example, if you are someone who loves to do things from your hands and legs like sweeping, mopping, keeping the home clean, washing utensils, washing clothes, etc. then you are almost putting away 4 hours of your daily time in these household chores. And if you think that you don’t have time to follow your passions then you are wasting a lot of time on something that can be done by others and in return, you can get enough time and energy to follow your pursuits.

If you are prone to getting diabetes because sugar problem runs in the family, then you will have to work towards your health and not against it. If you keep bingeing on sweets or junk foods time and again, and then complain that you have got pre-diabetes then you are doing it wrong. It means you are getting into the old habits of eating and living that are leading your health to suffer more. 

Thus, make a good plan of how you can come out of your atomic habits and change your life for the good. This strategy may not work all at one go but small steps to change your life so that you are at peace will go a long way. Think about it.
